Police said the 47-year-old woman was hurt when a man on a moped or push-bike threw acid over her. 
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a woman, in her 40s, who had suffered serious chemical burns to her face following an attack which is believed to have taken place in the vicinity of Northbrook Street in Ladywood.
“The woman was given pain relief to help ease her discomfort whilst her face was fully irrigated with water to help remove the unknown substance. She was then transferred by land ambulance on blue lights to hospital for further specialist burns treatment.”
She was then taken to hospital for further specialist burns treatment.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Police are investigating an attack in which a corrosive substance was thrown at a woman in Ladywood, Birmingham at around 10am this morning. 
Local residents said to be shocked to discover an acid attack took place in a usually peaceful area. 
Denise Roberts, 70, who has lived in her terraced house in Northbrook Street for more than 25 years, said: "The only problem usually around here is the kids on quad bikes.
"I feel safe usually and this won’t stop me going out. I was in town this morning at the rag market so I didn’t see anything.

The number of acid attacks have risen in the past three years. 
In West Midlands alone, local police recorded 57 crimes where the attackers used various acids, red-hot water or cigarette burns.
